GHK-Cu is typically used at 0.05–2% in the water phase. Because copper drives both the colour and the activity, a small amount goes a long way; higher levels deepen the blue tint of the finished product, which formulators either feature or offset.
Stability — the pitfalls to plan for
Copper peptides are more formulation-sensitive than many actives, so plan the base around them:
- pH: keep to a mildly acidic-to-neutral window; extreme pH destabilises the complex.
- Strong chelators & reducing agents: ingredients such as high-dose ascorbic acid (vitamin C) can strip or reduce the copper, breaking the complex. Separate them or use derivatives.
- Sulfur compounds and strong anionics: can interact with copper — test compatibility.
- Colour: the blue tint is normal; keep it in mind for pack and marketing.
- Storage of raw material: sealed, cool, dry and away from light.
