PDRN (Sodium DNA) Cosmetic Raw Material Sourcing Guide: Specs, Purity, Endotoxin, MOQ and Documents

Searches for "PDRN raw material" and "Sodium DNA supplier" have climbed with the skin-repair trend, and so has the number of offers that look identical on paper. This guide explains how a cosmetic brand, OEM laboratory or distributor should evaluate cosmetic-grade PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide, INCI Sodium DNA, CAS 100403-24-5): what the name covers, which specifications matter, what a credible COA looks like, and which documents and commercial terms to expect. It is written for business buyers of raw material and does not cover finished products or any medical use.

What PDRN is, and how it is named

PDRN is a mixture of deoxyribonucleotide polymers obtained from the gonads (milt) of salmon, most often wild-caught Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) or chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta). The DNA is extracted, purified and depolymerised into fragments that are then supplied as the sodium salt. On an ingredient label the material is declared under the INCI name Sodium DNA; "PDRN", "polydeoxyribonucleotide" and "salmon DNA" are trade or scientific names for the same class of material. "Polynucleotide" (PN) usually refers to longer DNA chains and is more common in medical-device marketing. When comparing quotes, ask every supplier to confirm INCI name, CAS number and fragment size range.

Cosmetic grade versus injectable grade

PDRN is also sold as a medical-device or pharmaceutical material for injection, and the two markets are frequently confused. Cosmetic-grade Sodium DNA is intended for topical products only: serums, creams, masks and post-procedure skincare. It is not sterile, is not released against injectable endotoxin or sterility specifications, and is not manufactured under a pharmaceutical quality system. Injectable PDRN follows a separate regulatory path (medical-device or drug registration) with its own dossier. A supplier offering the same lot for "topical or injection use" is mis-describing the material. WYOO supplies cosmetic-grade Sodium DNA for topical use only.

Specification checklist

These parameters separate a well-characterised cosmetic-grade PDRN from an unqualified powder. Ask for each to be stated on the COA with the method used.

ParameterWhat to look forWhy it matters
SourceSpecies and tissue stated (for example wild Atlantic salmon milt), wild-caught or farmedTraceability and marketing claims depend on it
AppearanceWhite to pale yellow powder or fibreColour drift can indicate protein or degradation
Purity (DNA content)Typically ≥ 95% for cosmetic grade, some lots ≥ 98%, by HPLC or UV absorbance (A260)Defines how much of what you pay for is DNA
Fragment sizeStated in base pairs (bp) and/or kilodaltons (kDa), with the method (gel electrophoresis or SEC-HPLC)Drives behaviour in formulation and lot-to-lot consistency
Protein residueStated limit, usually by A260/A280 ratio or a protein assayResidual protein is the main source of odour, colour and sensitisation risk
EndotoxinLAL result with the limit, even for cosmetic gradeIndicator of microbial control during extraction
Heavy metals and microbial limitsPb, As, Hg, Cd; total plate count, yeast and mould, absence of specified pathogensStandard cosmetic raw-material safety
Loss on drying, pH of solutionStated valuesHygroscopic material; affects weighing and stability

On fragment size, suppliers use two conventions. One states the range in base pairs, the other in kDa. Double-stranded DNA weighs roughly 650 daltons per base pair, so a fragment of about 1,000 bp corresponds to roughly 650 kDa. Ask the supplier to state both, or at least which one they measure, so you can compare COAs from different sources.

Reading the COA and spotting red flags

  • A COA that lists "purity 99%" without a method or a lot number is a marketing sheet, not a release document.
  • "Salmon-derived" alone is not a specification. Ask for species, tissue and whether the source is wild-caught or farmed.
  • No endotoxin or protein result on any lot suggests the parameter is not controlled.
  • A third-party report that references a different lot than the one quoted to you.
  • Any suggestion that the cosmetic lot can be used for injection or microneedling.

Documents to request

  • Batch-specific COA with methods and lot number.
  • MSDS / SDS with the correct CAS and INCI name.
  • Specification sheet with typical values and limits.
  • Statement of origin and, where available, a fishing or farming source statement.
  • Allergen statement and a BSE/TSE statement (fish-derived, not ruminant).
  • Third-party test report on request, tied to the same lot.
  • Commercial invoice, packing list and HS code for customs.

Commercial terms in the current market

Chinese cosmetic-grade PDRN is quoted from small quantities because unit value is high: MOQs of 10 g to 50 g are common, with tiered pricing at 100 g and above. WYOO's standard terms are MOQ 50 g, lead time 5 to 10 working days after payment for in-stock lots, payment by T/T with 30% deposit and 70% before shipment for B2B accounts, a COA with every batch, and free 5 g samples for qualified companies with freight paid by the buyer. Material ships in sealed, light-protected containers with desiccant; store as stated on the supplier's specification sheet.

How WYOO handles PDRN enquiries

WYOO is a sourcing partner with audited partner factories, not a manufacturer. For Sodium DNA we qualify partner lots against the checklist above, send the COA before you pay, arrange third-party testing on request, and quote price, MOQ, lead time, Incoterms and documents in one written message in English, Chinese, Spanish, German or French. Send your target specification through the contact page or WhatsApp and you will have a comparable quote within one business day.

Häufige Fragen

Can cosmetic-grade PDRN (Sodium DNA) be used for injection or microneedling?
No. Cosmetic-grade Sodium DNA is released for topical use only. It is not sterile and is not tested against injectable endotoxin or sterility specifications. Injectable PDRN is a separately regulated medical-device or pharmaceutical material, and WYOO does not supply it.
Why do endotoxin and protein residue matter for cosmetic PDRN, and what should the COA show?
Protein residue is the main source of odour, colour drift and sensitisation risk, and endotoxin shows how well microbial contamination was controlled during extraction. A credible COA states a protein limit (often by A260/A280 ratio or a protein assay) and an LAL endotoxin result, each with the method and the lot number.
What are the MOQ, lead time and sample policy for PDRN raw material?
Market MOQs run from 10 g to 50 g. WYOO's standard MOQ is 50 g, in-stock lots ship in 5 to 10 working days after payment, every batch comes with a COA, and qualified companies can request a free 5 g sample with freight paid by the buyer.
